Our Doctors

Ben Sikkenga, OD

Dr. Sikkenga graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University in 2018 with distinction and was an award recipient of the GP Lens Institute Excellence in specialty lens fitting. He completed internships at the Detroit VA Medical Center, Cherry Health in Grand Rapids and University Eye Center in Big Rapids.

He is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Michigan Optometric Association and the West Michigan Optometric Association. He enjoys spending time with his wife Courtney, their twin boys, Archer and Charles, and daughter Clara. They enjoy the many community activities available in Newaygo County. Ben also enjoys hunting, fishing, playing golf and hockey. He is honored to be in practice with such outstanding doctors and great people.

Bill Meengs, OD

Dr. William (Bill) Meengs received his doctorate from The Michigan College of Optometry in 2018, graduating with distinction. He completed interships at Duane Waters Hospital in Jackson, as well as Michigan State Neuro-Opthlalmology in Lansing, and the Wyoming VA in Grand Rapids.

Dr. Bill Meengs is a West Michigan native, and looks forward to continuing to serve the eyecare needs of his community.

When he is not working, Dr. Meengs can be found on the golf course in the summer and the ski slopes in the winter. He and his wife Jessica (as well as their daughter Emma) reside in Spring Lake and attend Harvest Bible Chapel.

Dr. Meengs is proud to practice alongside such skilled colleagues and to continue to serve this community.

Douglas L. Totten, OD, MBA

Although Dr. Totten is now retired and no longer regularly sees patients, you may occasionally see him filling in for other doctors.

Dr. Totten graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University in 1985 and was recognized as the Alumnus of the Year in 2018.

He serves on various committees for the profession including being chair of the American Optometric Association’s Ethics and Values Committee. He is proud to have grown married children and to be a new grandparent. He is thrilled to practice with his daughter Julia, niece Hannah, and colleagues Ben Sikkenga and Bill Meengs.

Sam Darwin, Practice Manager

Sam serves as our practice manager for three locations (Fremont, Holland, and Norton Shores) and pursues ongoing training in providing excellent patient care. She shows immense passion in providing prompt, efficient, and accurate service, especially when patients have questions regarding their visits with our office. Sam assists in all operations for our family owned practices to thrive.

During her free time, she enjoys relaxing with her family, reading, attending local events and overall being active in the community.
